Over the past few days my heart has been impressed by the need to help the victims in Haiti. In the best way I know how, I would like to raise money by auctioning off these 3 images from Hurricane Katrina’s 9th Ward when my brother, a few friends and I went down to be a part of the relief effort in the spring of 2006.
Photos for Haiti – proceeds go DIRECTLY to Haiti
it is my hope that this series will not only provide a resounding amount of financial support for the victims in Haiti but that it will also open a door of understanding and hope for the owner of this piece. i hope that each one of these images opens a door from our American minds to another world beyond ours. as we look and reflect on the times that we have personally been helped, encouraged, loved, cared for, we realize that we have the ability to continue that hope and support for our brothers and sisters around the world.
please check out my blog (www.derksworks.com) to get a more complete understanding of my heart in this matter and i hope, if you are able to bid on this image, it blesses you as much to give as it has been for me to put this series together.
details:
it’s a 13.5×20 inch print that i matted and framed out to 22×28 in a black wood frame. i think it looks pretty sweet.
shipping: dont worry about the shipping. i’ll take care of that part. we’re both giving to Haiti here.

i believe that God gives to us because He wants to. i want to give to others because He wants me to want to too.
Ah Yes! Quite a Car …. and very well built! As I recall the one time that I backed into the side of it with my van there was a large dent in my fender, however there seemed to be a rather small indentation on the side by the wheel in Old Red! My slider never could quite stay open after that! I do believe that “red” seemed to hae a nack for attracting passers by that like carrying baseball bats. I remember that delightful summer evening we shared the wonderful experience of leaving the Mud Hens Game and upon finding “Red” and our “Big Debbie” van, being able to open our car doors by just reaching in and not even having to roll down the windows! Ah yes…. the memories… and definitely quite a car!
Oh the Maroon Beast, as I fondly remember dear Red….the memories! One of the best was being caught by the police making out in Red @ the end of Far Hills rd (the street your parents lived on). That was awesome, and a classic memory in red.
I also remember looking for your car waiting at my parents house… or driving past other maroon beasts and thinking of you whether i was living in Toledo, Chicago, or Columbus.
Red was our luxurious vehicle on our first date, when you first held my had and i stroked the palm of yours. And i loved the fact that in the front there was a middle seat so we could sit closer together on our many drives, whether near or far it was definitely our “cuddle car”!
“The RED” was a gracious, hand-me-down gift from Grampa Harden when he moved to the Toledo area. I had his doctor’s advise and determined his driving days were over after and accident/injury in abt 2002. I tried to tell my Dad that driving with both feet wasn’t a good idea even if the totally bald tires weren’t an issue. Anyway. “The RED” came to live at our house and when it didn’t sell in the Trading Post it was given to Benjamin, then starting college. The miles it logged were many and in many directions I recall from Owens, BGSU, Beulah Beach, to Chicago, Columbus, Ann Arbor, to name a few. Little does my son know we installed a black box recorder so when Benjamin & Jennifer started logging “time” it may just have gone out on a local police scanner …hmmm my memory is a bit foggy on that one, sorry just can’t fully recall :) Anyway it served you Benjamin well, cost plenty in repairs, and had serious window issues as I remember. Thanks for the memory lane trip and the photo!
