Five year ago when Benjj and I got married we set many personal and professional goals. (In all truth, Benjamin proposed with 3 beautiful hand written letters, one of which included a business plan, he knows me so well) These goals included everything from travelling to Paris (coming this September!!) to creating a business, were we can work together using our creative skills collaboratively, supporting our family, teaching and giving generously. Throughout the years we saw some goals met and prayed about the timing of others. After 12 years in the corporate world, learning first hand valuable business skills I found myself working long hours, traveling constantly, putting over two hundred thousand miles on my car and completely burnt out. I saw myself and others defining me by words such as driven, successful, work-a-holic, sales manager, fatigued, established…I craved more, I desired something different. I wanted to be surround by love, creativity, relationships, story telling, openness, fulfillment, gratitude and fearless risk and reward and I wanted others to see these traits in my life, in my work. I didn’t want to be merely a job title, an employee ID number a dollar amount. Over this same period of time, Benjamin had been working diligently and seeing substantial growth and the need for expanding the team was becoming very clear. Through many conversations and unexpected events it was clear that is was time to begin the preparations for me to transition to Derk’s Works. But I wondered in what capacity. Do I take on the expected role of husband and wife photography duo? Is there a way that I can use my specific interests and skills more effectively? Can I take the sales, marketing and management knowledge and experience and combining it with my creative passions? Absolutely! So here I am, ready to partner with the DW team and partner with each of you, excited to announce my new full time role with Derk’s Works Photography!
It has been quite the journey to get to this point and I know this is the beginning of a exhilarating and somewhat scary new adventure but there is no one I would rather partner with than the amazing Benjamin Derkin, my love and trusted friend.

This change is professional and also deeply personal. This camera strap was a gift from my mom as I took this new role. It isn’t just an awesome camera strap, it is her original camera strap that she wore and shot with for years. I love her, I love this gift and the reminder of our families unconditional love and support of our love, work and life!
